Somaliland’s House of Representatives Reaches Unanimous Consent for Mediation Committee’s Electoral Plan
The House of Representatives in Somaliland has reached a unanimous consensus in favor of the electoral proposal put forth by the mediation committee. This proposal was presented by President Muse Bihi to the parliament on wednesday.
During today’s session, attended by 48 members, an overwhelming majority of 45 members voted in favor of the proposal, while two members chose to abstain. Remarkably, there were no dissenting votes. This outcome was officially announced by the House on Saturday. The House has expressed its intent to establish a committee responsible for creating laws governing the upcoming elections.
The electoral proposal recommends the synchronization of the presidential and political association elections, scheduled to take place simultaneously next year instead of holding them within a single year.
The proposal has garnered widespread support from major political parties, who regard it as the most viable means of resolving the protracted political unrest surrounding the Somaliland elections.
