Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh urges ministers to step up fight against Alshabab
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has called on the Council of Ministers to intensify their role in the ongoing operations against the Alshabab, who have been waging attacks against the government since the last decade.
During a meeting with his council of ministers, where he briefed them on the progress and achievements of the recent military campaigns against the group. He said that the second phase of the operations had resulted in great victories, and praised the security forces and the local people for their remarkable improvements in the battlefields.
Also, He said that several areas that had been under the Alshabab’s control for a long time had been liberated, and urged the ministers to continue their support for the operations. The president also stressed the importance of finalizing the Federal Constitution, and said that it was necessary to have accountable and law-abiding institutions.
The Federal government recently launched the second phase of anti Alshabab operations in central and southern regions of the country, pledged to continue until the group is removed from the country.
