Reacting to queries raised by member of House of People’s Representatives, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali emphatically declared that Ethiopia harbors no intentions of causing harm to Somalia, emphasizing the deep historical ties and shared blood between the two nations.

Prime Minister Abiy acknowledged the sacrifices made by numerous Ethiopians for the peace of Somalia, highlighting that Ethiopia stands unparalleled in terms of the efforts and lives given for the stability of its neighboring country.
Addressing the issue of potential conflicts, Prime Minister Abiy categorically stated that Ethiopia does not endorse war against any country as a matter of principle. However, he pointed out the existence of external forces attempting to incite conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia, a situation he vehemently opposed.
“Our request is for sea access based on mutual benefit,” the Prime Minister explained, noting the potential advantages not only for Ethiopia but also for regional cooperation. He emphasized the constructive nature of the request, aiming for a symbiotic relationship that fosters mutual growth and prosperity.
The Prime Minister concluded by reiterating Ethiopia’s commitment to maintaining peaceful relations with Somalia, re-emphasizing that Ethiopia, as a friend, wishes no harm to befall its neighbor. The plea for sea access is framed within the context of fostering cooperation and strengthening the bonds between the two nations.
This statement comes at a crucial time when the region faces tensions emanated from the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia as Somalia objected the deal with a claim that it would tamper with its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
