President Muse Bihi Visits Somaliland Army Released from Lasaanood; Calls for Ceasefire in El Afweyn

President Muse Bihi Abdi of the independent Republic of Somaliland has embarked on a visit to the Oog district in the Sool region. The trip, announced this morning, holds great importance as it involves the President’s visit to the Somaliland army, recently released from Lasaanood. This development has been confirmed by BBC reporter Sidiiq Burmad in Hargeisa.

The backdrop to President Bihi’s visit is the recent conflict that erupted at the main camp of the Independent Republic of Somaliland forces in the Sool region’s Gojacadde area. Following yesterday morning’s battle, the SSC (Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn) troops asserted that they had successfully captured prisoners and war vehicles.
The city of Lasaanood, which has seen its residents displaced from various areas for the past eight months, remains deeply affected. Many vehicles have been observed entering the city, raising concerns about the presence of thousands of unexploded bombs lurking in the ground.
In light of the conflict, President Muse Bihi Abdi addressed the situation and extended his condolences to the casualties of the war.
In a separate incident, reports from El-Afweyn district in Sanaag state reveal that a skirmish between two communities resulted in the tragic loss of eighteen lives, with thirty others sustaining injuries.
Responding to the crisis, a delegation comprising ministers and members of Somaliland’s House of Representatives ventured into the district, along with local intellectuals and officials.
They collectively issued a call for an immediate ceasefire between the warring communities, which have been locked in conflict for the past seven days.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation that initiated the ceasefire call, Deputy Chairman of Somaliland’s House of Representatives, Said Mire Farah (Girre), offered insights into the ongoing efforts to restore peace in El Afweyn.
