Fresh Clashes Erupt in Sudan’s El Fasher state Amid Threats of Full-Scale Confrontation

Eight people were wounded by bullets near the Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, on Wednesday, as the Sudanese army clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Emergency services confirmed that the injured individuals were transferred to the Southern Hospital for treatment, while military reinforcements from the army were reportedly dispatched to the clash area.

In the latest clashes, one person was reported dead, and four others sustained injuries.

The violence erupted when a substantial RSF contingent attempted to advance into El Fasher through the Mellit Gate, only to be repelled by the army’s advanced defenses stationed near the Abu Shouk camp.

The RSF, currently controlling four out of five Sudanese states in Darfur, is aiming to seize El Fasher, the sole city in Darfur where the army maintains a significant presence.

Tensions in El Fasher remain high as both the Sudanese army and RSF continue to amass troops, raising concerns of a potential full-scale confrontation.

Speaking anonymously, a senior military official emphasized that the joint force comprising armed movements signatories to the Juba Agreement, will not tolerate the victimization of war victims residing in North Darfur IDP camps.

The official warned both sides against clashing in displaced areas and asserted that the joint force would intervene to protect civilians in case of any further attacks.
