Former Prime Minister of Somalia Emphasizes non-politicization of ongoing military operations against Alshabab
Former Prime Minister of Somalia, Omar Abdirashiid Ali Sharmarke, has issued a call to action, imploring the nation’s leaders not to politicize the ongoing military efforts in central and Southern Somalia aimed at combating Al-Shabaab. He emphasized the importance of refraining from seeking political advantages during these critical operations.
Sharmarke, in his address to the populace, urged citizens to actively participate in the battle to reclaim their territories from Al-Shabaab while commending the federal government’s commitment to counterterrorism. He stressed the indispensable role that citizens must play in supporting the armed forces to secure a definitive victory.
He also encouraged the national army to continue their counterterrorism operations while recommending that the government reevaluate its military strategies and consider the capabilities of the defense forces in various scenarios.
Over the past year, the federal government has been engaged in sustained efforts against Al-Shabaab, claiming significant territorial gains and the neutralization of numerous Al-Shabaab militants during these operations.
