East African Community Postpones Submit to Debate Somalia’s Bid To Join The Bloc
Members of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State have postponed a summit to discuss the progress report on the verification exercise for Somalia’s application to join the block………..
According to reports, the members of the East African community head of states have delayed submission which was expected to discuss the verification exercise for Somalia’s application to join the block.
Which means that Somalia will have to wait longer before sharing the table with other East Africa Community countries. The 21st ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State which took place virtually on Saturday confirmed that the Somalia application to join the community had not been undertaken.
The intergovernmental organization shed light that the summit considered the application by the Democratic Republic of Congo to join EAC and directed the Council to undertake a verification mission.
In 2016 Somalia first applied to join the regional interrogation but was not given green light due to unrevealed reasons. Somalia protested and reapplied again in 2018.
The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organization of 6 Partner States: the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
