Hargeisa residents complain about water swamps and blocked roads
Hargeisa (CBATV) – Some residents in Mohamoud Haybe district of Hargeisa expressed strong complaints about a road blocked by the local municipality which has caused great damages to their homes and lives.
The
residents concerned that disease outbreaks can happen if the water swamps are
not cleared out.
Mohamud
Mohamed Ali, one of the elders of the district who spoke to the CBATV, told
that this problem severely affected only poor suburbs after rains damaged their
homes. H claimed that the local government illegally allowed the lanes to be
blocked and homes are constructed in the waterways. This caused the rainwater
to washed away homes and shops.
Rahman
Adan Ismail, one of the surviving mothers from the recent downpours, has voiced
that she had experienced difficulties at the times of rains and was not able to
go outside of her home for several days.
She added that her kids are unable to go to school because of fear of
being harmed by floods.
Another
fed-up resident, Abdirahman Adan Sheikh Mohamud, for his part said that the
water swamps developed into dirty lakes and that they are on the brink of
getting sick. He lamented how the local government failed its duties and
neglected its citizens and taxpayers.
Mr.
Abdirahman requested the Somaliland president, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi, to
immediately fire the Hargeisa city council, saying that the community has not
received any development or service from them and it is important new council
to be elected soon.
