Arab League calls for energy support to the Federal government of Somalia

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit,has called on Arab League member states and regional financial institutions to support technical and energy assistance to Somalia.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit said it is important to train people working in the technical bases and energy to improve their skills. The Secretary called on members states to take part in alleviating power problems in Somalia.

Assistant Secretary-General Head of the Department of Economics of the Arab League, Kamal Hassan Ali, speaking at the Secretary-General’s Conference 13th Arab Summit, also said that over the next 40 years, projects of Energy will reach 45 Trillion.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on the other hand welcomed the signing of a power-sharing deal between the internationally-recognized government of Yemen and Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz sponsored the signing ceremony that took place in the Saudi capital on Tuesday.

The ceremony was attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and STC chief Aidarous al-Zubaidi and several senior official.

The deal stipulated that a new power-sharing government will operate from the southern port city of Aden, the country’s interim capital, and exercise all its tasks in serving the people from there.

The STC is considered as a significant part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition to fight Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen.

The impoverished Arab country has been locked in a civil war since late 2014, when the Houthis overran much of the country and seized all northern areas including the capital Sanaa.
