Al-Shabab Attack Injures Galmudug State Officials in Central Somalia
In a recent incident, Deputy Commissioner Shaafi Abdi Jama of Guriel district and the Commander of the district’s police station, Osman Hudeey, sustained injuries during an assault by the Al-Shabab group in the Barujeed area of the Galgadud region.
According to reports, the deputy commissioner and the commander were among the reinforcement troops dispatched to aid forces under attack at their base in the area. The government forces were stationed at two significant bases in the region.
Farah Abdi Moalim, the commissioner of Guriel district in Galmudug, informed local media that the military and local militia effectively thwarted the group’s attack on the army base, causing substantial casualties among the al-Shabab fighters.
This attack occurred merely days after the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism disclosed that elite forces of the Somalia National Army, backed by international partners, executed an overnight operation in the Shabellow forest in the southern Mudug region of central Somalia. Security agencies reported the successful elimination of 20 al-Shabab militants during this operation.
