Somalia Prime Minister arrives in Kismayo to assess the humanitarian situation as Floods kill more

The Prime minister of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre has arrived in Kismayo, the administrative city of Jubaland state where he will be following the unfolding humanitarian situation and overseeing emergency relief efforts following heavy flooding that has killed scores and displaced thousands.

The Jubaland state President, Ahmed Madobe and other regional notable figures welcomed the Prime minister and his delegation where the officials will discuss the recent humanitarian situation resulting from the floods.

The Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) announced Saturday that 96 people have since been killed by floods since the start of this month. The agency said 28 people died after a boat they were in capsized as they fled from the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The situation remains dire in several parts of Jubaland. In Afmadow, located in the Middle Juba, large swathes of territory have been inundated by floods while in parts of Gedo region, families have been cut off by floods as emergency responders work round the clock to salvage the situation.
