US to Resume Food Aid Deliveries in Ethiopia after Six-Month Suspension

The United States has declared its intention to restart deliveries of food aid across Ethiopia in December, marking the end of a six-month suspension.

The decision comes as millions of Ethiopians grapple with severe food shortages exacerbated by the impacts of conflict and adverse weather conditions.

The U.S. international development agency, USAid, revealed that the aid resumption will be carried out on a one-year trial basis.

The agency emphasized the implementation of substantial reforms aimed at guaranteeing that food supplies reach those most in need, addressing concerns raised during the suspension period.

The halt in aid, initiated by the United States in June, was prompted by allegations of widespread and coordinated diversion of supplies, hindering their intended distribution.

Last month saw a limited resumption of aid, specifically targeting refugees in camps.
