UN Security Council sets to meet on Gaza humanitarian crisis as death toll passes 8,000

The United Nations Security Council is expected to convene to hold talks on the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza as more than 8,000 people have now been confirmed killed in the retaliatory attacks by Israel. The attacks have also led to the killing of innocent children, women and the elderly people…

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as Israel continues its ground operation in the Palestinian territory over the weekend.

The meeting, which was requested by the United Arab Emirates, will see the Security Council getting updated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, UNRWA.

Earlier, the UN children’s aid agency UNICEF said children are facing a “catastrophic” situation in Gaza, with parents left with no choice but to give them salty water.

One of the officials who spoke with the BBC said on an everyday basis children are being killed, wounded, maimed due to the raging attack by the Israeli Defence Forces.

The Security Council has failed in different attempts to secure a ceasefire as the US and Russia trade veto power over the contents of the resolutions.

Meanwhile, The Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza says the order to evacuate Al-Quds, a key hospital in Gaza City, is impossible.
The organisation noted that there are patients in intensive care units and babies in incubators, and moving them is unrealistic.

The health ministry in Gaza says more than 8,000 people have been killed while thousands of others have been severely injured since Israel’s retaliatory bombing began.
