Former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok has been elected to lead the Democratic Civilian Front, comprising representatives from diverse sectors, including political and civil forces, resistance committees, unions, and professional bodies.

The meeting established a 30-member executive coordination office and outlined plans for the founding meeting of the coordination.

Approximately a hundred representatives from political, civil, union, and military forces converged in Addis Ababa to demand the reinstatement of democratic civil transition in Sudan.

Participants agreed on essential papers covering political, economic, humanitarian, and media aspects, aiming to pave the way for the end of the ongoing conflicts.

Former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok urged warring parties to facilitate humanitarian aid access and called on civil forces to collaborate in halting the war and addressing urgent humanitarian needs.

The civil forces plan to conduct workshops focusing on civil negotiating positions, security and military reform, transitional justice, and institutional rebuilding.

Addressing the dire humanitarian situation, the attendees emphasized the need for a ceasefire, safe corridors for relief, international oversight, and innovative aid delivery methods.

The participants welcomed the resumption of the Jeddah Talks, appreciating the efforts of Saudi Arabia and the US. They also called for unification of regional initiatives, such as those by IGAD and the AU, in the ongoing peace negotiations.

Described as an “unprecedented historical consensus,” the meeting marked a significant milestone in Sudan’s pursuit of democracy. Civil forces’ representation exceeded 70 percent, reflecting a strong sense of patriotism and unity among national figures.

This historic accord signifies a turning point in Sudan’s political landscape, fostering hope for a democratic future as the nation strives to overcome its challenges.
