Ethiopian Embassy in Khartoum Attacked with Heavy Weapons

The Ethiopian Embassy in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum came under attack with heavy weapons, as confirmed by Yibeltal Ayimiro Alemu, the Ethiopian Ambassador to Sudan in a concerning incident on Tuesday morning,

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the attack; however, the embassy’s building sustained partial damage.

Ambassador Alemu provided this information to the BBC, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The blame for this attack has been directed towards the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), an entity that has been engaged in ongoing conflict alongside the Sudanese army since April 15.

Notably, the Sudanese army has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, leaving room for speculation and uncertainty.

This incident, though alarming, is not an isolated occurrence. Just three weeks ago, the Ethiopian embassy in Khartoum fell victim to an air strike, which resulted in injuries to a security guard and extensive damage, including shattered windows.

The broader context of this unrest is a conflict that has already claimed the lives of more than 5,000 people and forced five million others to become displaced, according to the United Nations.
