Somaliland’s Garhajis clan Holds an Anticipated Conference
Hundreds of delegates have gathered in Burao to attend the opening of a conference held by the largest clan in Somaliland. This clan congress comes amid political deadlock in Somaliland over the upcoming elections and the president’s ending term……….
A grand.conference for One of Somaliland’s largest clans, Garhahjis, has kicked off in Burao today. It is expected to last for three days.
Over 600 delegates from five regions of the country which the clan inhabits have attended the meeting. The Grand Sultan of Somaliland, Sultan Daud Sultan Mohamed is among the notable figures who are in the conference venue. Other dignitaries include members of parliament, politicians, traditional and civic leaders.
The conference coincides at a time Somaliland is mired in a political turmoil over the election sequence and the term extension for president Bihi. However, the clan delegates did not officially claim if this conference relates with the current political situation.
Lawmakers and politicians from the opposition parties who belong to the clan also traveled to Burao to attend the conference.
A new political impasse emerged after the house of elders recently extended Bihi’s mandate by two years, a move sternly denounced by the opposition parties and repeatedly pledged to not consider him as the legitimate President after his tenure ends on 13 November.
